What’s in a Name?

“What’s in a name? that which we call a rose
By any other name would smell as sweet;” – Juliet (Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare)

Romeo and Juliet are not the inspiration for the title of my blog, but I really love that quote. This post is about the background of my blog’s name. Sassy with a side of peaches was not my first choice. I wanted something like southern peaches, but it was taken. I tried single sweet and sassy, but realized if I ever got in a relationship, that would not work. I was sitting with my friend Lori, at Martin’s (grocery store with a Starbucks attached), liked that I used peaches in the first choice. I thought about it and BAM! sassy with a side of peaches was there for the taking.

Sassy Molassy

If you know me at all, which some of you probably don’t, you know that I am very sassy girl. My hallmates and roommates my freshmen year in college nicknamed me sassy pants. My favorite story is where my roommate, Amanda, saw how sassy I was within ten minutes of meeting me. I was moving my stuff in, she was already moved in, and one of our other roommates was moving in at the same time as me. I was getting upset with the roommate and her family because they took over the whole room. When I am annoyed, I get even sassier than usual. I was talking with my mom and I was being sassy; apparently Amanda noticed the sass coming out. I did not know that was her first impression of me, but after a couple of months, we talked about our first impressions of each other and she bought that up. It was funny to me, but even though my sass was the first thing she saw, she looked past that and we are now best friends. The sassy part of the blog name came from me and my sassy self.

Sweet Peaches

Peaches are my favorite fruit and favorite type of pie. Peaches are definitely a Southern thing. I am not from the South, but I have always dreamed of moving there. Snapple has a peach tea and that is my first memory of peaches in my life. My parents used to drink Snapple all the time and we would get some and Subway before my sister’s tennis matches. I would not want any because I thought that I did not like tea (I was very naïve). I don’t remember the exact moment I tried it, but I know that it changed me. I love tea now; peaches in tea was a great invention.

My second encounter with peaches was peach pie. My dad loves peach pie and my mom has made at least 100 peach pies for him over the years. If your mom cannot cook or bake, I send you my deepest sympathies. My mom is an amazing cook and baker. She has had several years of practice, but she has also perfected the art of baking cakes, pies, and cookies. She had a whole year where she just made pies. We all gained a couple pounds, but it was worth it. I remember trying a bite of my dad’s piece of peach pie and I knew that it was the best thing in the world. It takes a long time to make; however, the end result is outstanding.

My final run in with peaches is peach picking. A fresh of the tree peach is an experience of a life time. They are so juicy and sweet that you feel like you’re falling in love. My family and I have gone peach picking once all together, and a couple times just a couple of us. The first time, it was all five of us. We all had so much fun. We went up to a peach farm place near South Haven, MI where you pick your own, instead of paying them to pick them for you. You each get a basket and load up onto the back of this big truck. It is kind of like a hay ride, but not. When you get to the spot they chose for picking that day, you get out and start picking away. You can take as many as you want and you can eat as many off the tree as you want. It was really fun, but kind of sticky. This was by far one of my favorite mini family trips we took.

Sassy Peaches

After I picked the name, I had an idea. I know that some bloggers have a name for their viewers or followers. Well, my name for all of you is built into the blog name. You may just be a viewer to Word Press or other bloggers, but to me, you are my sassy peaches. A sassy peach is a person who has a sassy side, but is also sweet like a peach. You may think it is silly, but I find it cute and fun. Wherever you are, whoever you are, and whatever you think of this blog, you are now a sassy peach in my eyes. This being said, it means a lot to me that you read my blog. Some people have blogs about dating, making furniture, fashion, their kids, etc. My blog is just me being honest and sharing my life with you. Whether it be through music, movies, TV shows, the Bible, books, or anything random I come up with, I know that you will support me.

1 Thessalonians 5:11 “Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing.”

Until next time my sassy peaches,
